National:

‘Jagananna Jeeva Kranthi’ scheme:
  • Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched “Jagananna Jeeva Kranthi” scheme, on December 10, 2020.
    This scheme is another step towards women empowerment. This aims to ensure better livelihood of women by providing them a stable source of income.
    Under this scheme, 2,49,151 sheep and goat units will be distributed in three phases to the women beneficiaries. A total 1,869 crore is being spent for the purpose.
12th GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) Summit:
  • Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu virtually inaugurated the 12th GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) Summit organized by the GRIHA Council in Hyderabad on December 15, 2020.
    On this occasion, the Vice President said the theme of this year’s summit is “Rejuvenating Resilient Habitats”. He also launched the three e-publications of GRIHA Council: 30 Stories Beyond Buildings; Shashwat Magazine; Version 2019 Manual of the Council
Swachhta Campaign Awards Ceremony:
  • Addressing at the Swachhta Campaign Awards Ceremony on 14 December 2020, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has made “Swachhta” a Jan Andolan. In this Jan Andolan, Petroleum industry has been also contributed.
    In the Awards Ceremony, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan handed over the awards to oil and gas PSUs for ‘Swacchta Pakhwada’ and ‘Swacchta hi Sewa’ campaigns. This award has been given for their efforts in raising awareness on various aspects of cleanliness, including waste management and eliminating single-use plastics.

First Prize– IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited)

Second Prize– BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) 

Third Prize– ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation)

Special Award– HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited)

First Prize– HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited)

Second Prize– BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited)

Third Prize– IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited)

International:

International Corona Virus Short Film Festival:
  • Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar addressed the “International Corona Virus Short Film Festival” at NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi on December 14, 2020. More than 2800 films from 108 countries are participating in the short film festival. These short films are based on cure, safety measure and lives during the Corona pandemic.
Death:
  • Italian professional footballer Paolo Rossi died on 9 December 2020. He was 64. He led the Italy team to the 1982 FIFA World Cup title.
  • Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini, Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini passed away on December 13, 2020. He was found positive for Covid-19. He was 52.
  • British actress Barbara Windsor died in London on December 10, 2020. She was 83. She was known for her role as for playing Peggy Mitchell in the BBC One soap opera EastEnders.
