Mizoram presented their Jal Jeevan Mission Annual Action Plan

⇒ The State of Mizoram presented their Jal Jeevan Mission Annual Action Plan with details of the saturation plan for the financial year 2021-22. Working along with the mission objective ‘HarGharJal’, Mizoram proposes 100% tap connections in rural homes of the State by 2022-23.

Achievement:

Out of 1.27 lakh rural households in the State, 59 thousand (46%) rural households have tap water supply. Total 34 thousand tap connections were provided by the State during 2020-2021.

Plan for 2021-22:

The State has planned to provide 40 thousand tap connections in 2021-2022.

5th generation Python-5 Air-to-Air Missile

⇒ Tejas, India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft, added the 5th generation Python-5 Air-to-Air Missile (AAM) in its air-to-air weapons capability on April 27, 2021.

Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court

⇒ The President of India has appointed Smt Justice Vimla Singh Kapoor, Additional Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, to be a Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office. She was appointed as an Additional Judge of Chhattisgarh High Court on 18 June 2018.

Chairman of Bajaj Auto

⇒ Famous Industrialist Rahul Bajaj has stepped down as the chairman and non-executive director of Bajaj Auto.

After the resignation, Niraj Bajaj, non-executive Director of the company, has been appointed as Chairman of Bajaj Auto with effect from May 1, 2021. Rahul Bajaj has assumed the role of Chairman Emeritus from May 1.

Sony World Photography Awards 2021

⇒ 20-year-old Pubarun Basu of Kolkata won the Sony World Photography Awards 2021 on April 15 for his picture, titled ‘No Escape from Reality’. The picture is a story of confinement told through his lens during lockdown.

Youth Photographer of the Year 2021:

Pubarun won the title of Youth Photographer of the Year 2021 at the Sony World Photography Awards & the title was presented by World Photography Organisation in London. Pubarun is the first Indian to have won this title.

Theme:

For the year 2021, the theme of the ‘Sony World Photography Awards 2021’ was composition and design. This is the 14th year of the competition.

Premier League Hall of Fame 2021

⇒ The Premier League Hall of Fame 2021 was presented by Budweiser.

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer and ex-Arsenal forward Thierry Henry is the first two players inducted into the Premier League’s Hall of Fame for 2021.

All the Inductees into the Hall of Fame for 2021 have been confirmed.

Other confirmed inductees include Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard.

⇒ Since 2000, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated globally on April 26 every year. World IP Day was established with the aim of increasing general understanding of IP.

National-award winning editor, Waman Bhonsle

⇒ National-award winning editor Waman Bhonsle passed away on 26 April 2021. He was 87.
Bhonsle won the best editing award at the 25th National Film award for Inkaar fillm.

He was edited more than 230 films including Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Do Raaste, Inkaar, Dostana, Agneepath, Hero, Karz, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Ghulam etc.

Educationist, Popular columnist and Prolific writer, Manoj Das

⇒ A noted educationist, popular columnist and prolific writer, Manoj Das passed away on April 27, 2021. He was 87.

He made rich contributions to English and Odia literature. Some of his notable contributions include Cyclones, A Tiger at Twilight, Amruta Phala, Sesha tantrikara sandhanare, The Escapist etc.

He was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2001 & Padma Bhusan in 2020 for his contribution in the field of Literature & Education. He was also awarded with the Sahitya Akademi Award Fellowship in 2006 & Saraswati Samman in 2000.

Cement industry veteran, L Sabaretnam

⇒ Cement industry veteran, L Sabaretnam passed away in Chennai on 25 April 2021. He was 80. He was the director and chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited.

Former managing director of Maruti Suzuki India, Jagdish Khattar

⇒ Former managing director of Maruti Suzuki India, Jagdish Khattar passed away on 26 April 2021. He was 79.
