National:

Various Development Projects in Puducherry:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stone of various development projects in Puducherry.

He laid the foundation stone for 4 laning of NH45-A covering Karaikal District, and Medical College Building at Karaikal New Campus-Phase I, Karaikal District (JIPMER).

He also laid the foundation stone for development of Minor Port at Puducherry under Sagarmala Scheme.

Various Development Projects in Coimbatore:

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stone of various development projects in Coimbatore.

He dedicated 1000 MW Neyveli New Thermal Power Project and 709 MW Solar Power Project of NLCIL to the nation.

He laid the foundation stone for design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 5MW grid connected ground based solar power plant at V O Chidambaranar Port. He also laid the foundation stone for the extension, renovation and modernisation of Lower Bhavani Project System.

Award to top-performing States & Districts under the PM-KISAN Scheme

  • Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj and Food Processing Industries, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar awarded the top performing States and Districts for their exemplary work with respect to the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme. Read More About Award

Kerala Folklore Akademi Award, 2020:

  • Noted exponent of Tholpavakkoothu, M Lakshmana Pulavar has been selected for the Kerala Folklore Akademi Award, 2020. He won the award for his contributions to Palakkad’s unique temple art form.

Tholpavakkoothu is a shadow puppet show presented in Bhadrakali temples of Palakkad by using leather puppets.

Technology:

FOSS Based Operating System:

  • The state-run Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has released new customised Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) based Operating System, the K’ITE GNU-Linux Lite 2020.
    This is for the benefits of computer users in the state.

Google Partnering with Intel:

  • Intel and Google have joined hands to develop cloud-based solutions for service providers deploying 5G networks. The partnership mainly focuses on cloud reference architectures and integrated solutions for deployment on different networks and edge locations.
Under this partnership, Google & Intel will work closely in three main areas:
  1. Accelerating the ability of communications service providers to deploy their Virtualized RAN (vRAN) and Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) solutions by providing next-generation infrastructure and hardware
  2. Launching new lab environments to help communications service providers innovate on cloud-native 5G
  3. Making it easier for them to deliver business applications to the network edge

Sports:

2nd Khelo India National Winter Games:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi delivered the inaugural address at the 2nd Khelo India National Winter Games at Gulmarg, on 26th February 2021 via video conferencing.

The Games was held from 26th February to 2nd March, 2021. The event was organised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and the Winter Games Association of J&K.

Teams of 27 States, Union Territories and Boards were participated in the games. In the event, sports activities was included such as alpine skiing, nordic ski, snowboarding, ski mountaineering, ice hockey, ice skating, ice stock etc.

Death:

  • Papua New Guinea’s first Prime Minister Michael Somare died on 26 February 2021. He was 84.

Somare was a pivotal figure in the South Pacific island nation’s independence movement. He was known as the “the Chief” and “father of the nation”.

Somare led Papua New Guinea to independence from Australia in 1975; he served four terms as the nation’s prime minister.
