National:

Merger of five film media units:
  • Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved to merge four of its film media units Films Division, Directorate of Film Festivals, National Film Archives of India, and Children’s Film Society, India with the National Film Development Corporation Ltd.
    The Union Cabinet approved the merger by expanding the Memorandum of Articles of Association of NFDC. The Memorandum of Articles of Association of NFDC will do all the activities being done by them so far.
Defence:
  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a major milestone on December 23, 2020 with the maiden launch of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM), Army Version from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha. It has been developed jointly by DRDO, India and IAI, Israel for use of the Indian Army.
Award:
  • Sarod Maestro Pandit Rajeev Taranath was conferred the prestigious S V Narayanarao Memorial National Award in Saraswathipuram on 21 December 2020.
    The award has been given by Bengaluru-based Sriramaseva Mandali Trust.
8 Khelo India State Centres of Excellence:
  • Union Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju virtually inaugurated 8 Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs) across India on December 22, 2020.
The 8 States include:
  1. Nagaland- State Sports Academy, IG Stadium Kohima
  2. Manipur – Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal
  3. Arunachal Pradesh – Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu Itanagar
  4. Mizoram – Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl
  5. Odisha – Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar
  6. Telangana – Regional Sports School Hakimpet
  7. Karnataka – Sh. Jayaprakash Narayan National Youth Centre Bangalore
  8. Kerala – GV Raja Sr. Sec. Sports School Thiruvananthapuram

International:

BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 prize:
  • Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has been voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 prize on December 20, 2020. Also in 2014, Hamilton was won this prize. Read More
Important Day:
  • The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on December 14 since 1991. National Energy Conservation Week was celebrated from December 14 to December 21, 2020 throughout the country.
    National Energy Conservation Awards 2020 (NECA 2020) function is scheduled on January 11, 2021. The award includes 5 categories Industry, buildings, Transport, Institutions and Appliances.
