National:

SAKSHAM Campaign-Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav 2021 (सक्षम – संरक्षण क्षमता महोत्सव 2021):
  • Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on 16 January 2021 launched a month long campaign ‘SAKSHAM- (Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav 2021)’ to spread awareness about ‘Green and Clean Energy’.
    This Pan-India campaign will focus on adoption of cleaner fuels. The campaign through various pan-India activities such as cyclothon, farmer workshops, seminars, painting competition, CNG vehicle driving contest, etc will spread awareness among masses about the advantages of using clean fuels.
    The Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Chairman of PCRA Shri Tarun Kapoor gave away awards for exemplary work in Oil & Gas Conservation by State Governments and Oil Companies and also awarded STUs for KMPL improvement. He also presented Award for the “Best performance in PAT Cycle-II for Refineries.
Charge for Ministry of AYUSH:
  • According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued on 19 January 2021, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju, has been temporarily assigned the charge of the Ministry of AYUSH.
Wolf Sanctuary in Kalyana-Karnataka Region:
  • Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa chaired the State Wildlife Board meeting on 19 January 2021.

During the meeting, he approved a proposal to set up a wolf sanctuary spread over 800 acres of forest area at Bankapura-2 reserve in Gangavathi division of Koppal District, Kalyana-Karnataka region.

Death:
  • Retired bureaucrat, Poet and Historian, Narendra Luther passed away on 19 January 2021 in Hyderabad. He was 88. He was 1955 batch IAS (retired) officer.
    He authored 14 books, the last being his autobiography “A Bonsai Tree”, which was published in 2017.
