Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court

⇒ President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind appointed Shri Abdul Rahim Musaliar Badharudeen, to be an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court, for a period of two years with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

The Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice issued a notification in this regard on 23 June 2021.

Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court

⇒ President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind appointed Shri Rajesh Narayandas Laddha, Shri Sanjay Ganpatrao Mehare, Shri Govinda Ananda Sanap and Shri Shivkumar Ganpatrao Dige, to be Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court.

They have been appointed for a period of two years from the date of assuming charge of their respective offices.

The Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice issued a notification in this regard on 23 June 2021.

Additional Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court

⇒ President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind appointed Shri Satyen Vaidya, to be an Additional Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, for a period of two years with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

International

European lawmakers approved a Climate Law

⇒Recently, European lawmakers approved a climate law making the bloc’s commitment to reach climate neutrality by 2050 a binding obligation.

Under the law, the EU will also commit itself to an intermediate target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.

MoU Between India and Kuwait

⇒ External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar arrived in Kuwait on 10 June 2021 as part of his bilateral visit to the Gulf country.

During his visit, India and Kuwait have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU was signed by Indian Ambassador Sibi George and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Majdi Ahmad Al-Dhafiri in the presence of visiting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.

Objective:

The MoU brings the Indian domestic workers in the Gulf nation within the ambit of a legal framework that streamlines their recruitment and provides them with the protection of the law.

The MoU seeks to establish a mechanism for 24-hour assistance to domestic workers.

IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2021

⇒ IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2021 was released on 17 June 2021. Its data explores multiple factors that affect the prosperity of 64 economies. This year, the rankings expose the economic impact of the pandemic across the globe.

Rank of India:

India maintained 43rd rank on an annual IMD World Competitiveness Index. India has maintained its position for the past three years.

Important Day:

World Hydrography Day 2021

⇒ World Hydrography Day is observed every year on 21 June 2021. 

Theme:

The theme of World Hydrography Day 2021 is “One Hundred years of International Cooperation in Hydrography”.

Significance:

World Hydrography Day is celebrated to highlight the importance of hydrography and the contributions of hydrographers. The day also promotes awareness about the need for safe navigation and the preservation of marine life.

History:

In 2005, the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) proposed a World Hydrography Day, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly.
