143 Khelo India Centres across 7 States

⇒ The Sports Ministry has dedicated a total of 143 Khelo India Centres across 7 States includes Maharashtra, Mizoram, Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, with a total budget estimate of Rs 14.30 Crores. These centres will be entrusted with one sports discipline each.

The States-wise bifurcation includes:
    • Maharashtra: 36 Khelo India Centres in 30 districts (estimate budget Rs 3.60 Crores)
    • Mizoram: 2 Khelo India Centres in Kolasib district (estimate budget Rs 20 Lakhs)
    • Arunachal Pradesh: 52 Khelo India Centres in 26 districts (estimate budget Rs 4.12 Crores)
    • Madhya Pradesh: 4 Khelo India Centres (estimate budget Rs 40 Lakhs)
    • Karnataka: 31 Khelo India Centres (estimate budget Rs 3.10 Crores)
    • Manipur: 16 Khelo India Centres (estimate budget Rs 1.60 Crores)
    • Goa: 2 Khelo India Centres (estimate budget Rs 20 Lakhs)

Setting up of India's first radioisotope production (reactor)

⇒ The announcement of setting up of India’s first radioisotope production (reactor) and processing facility complex in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode for production of medical radioisotopes was made in January 2021. Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has informed that the design, regulatory clearances and other preparatory work for the Research Reactor is moving at a good pace. 

The project is on track to initiate the formal Request for Proposal (RfP) process for selection of the private partner in the 4th quarter of year 2021. DAE is planning to continue the interaction with potential partners (investors). Next such informal interaction is being planned during July 2021. DAE plans to conclude the RfP process by March 2022. This will be first of its kind Public Private Partnership in the world.

DAE through one of its subsidiaries (Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, NPCIL) will be taking the responsibility of constructing the Reactor, including the upfront capital expenditure for construction.

Creation of one post of Director in Senior Administrative Grade, at NDRF Academy

⇒ The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for creation of one (01) post of Director in Senior Administrative Grade (SAG), at National Disaster Response Force Academy, Nagpur.

With the creation of the post of Director, NDRF Academy, the command and control of the organisation will be entrusted to a senior and experienced officer, who can steer the institution as per the intended objectives.

Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court

⇒ The President of India appointed Shri Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, senior-most Judge of Chhattisgarh High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court with effect from 01st June, 2021.

New Consulate General of India in Addu City, Maldives

⇒ The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the opening of a new Consulate General of India in Addu City, Maldives in 2021. Opening of a Consulate General in Addu City will help augment India’s diplomatic presence in Maldives.

Kenya's First Female Chief Justice

⇒ Court of Appeal Judge Martha Koome has been appointed Kenya’s first female chief justice. She’s been appointed by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. She is the first woman from East African country to head of the judiciary.

Boxing’s first Dronacharya Awardee coach, Om Prakash Bhardwaj

⇒ Boxing’s first Dronacharya Awardee coach, Om Prakash Bhardwaj died on 21 May 2021. He was 82.

The sports ministry introduced the Dronacharya Award in 1985. This year, Bhardwaj was feted with Dronacharya Award.

He was India’s boxing coach from 1968 to 1989 & also served as a national selector. During his coaching period, India won dozens of international medals, especially at the Asian level.
