International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8 March. The global day is to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Theme:

The UN’s theme for the International Women’s Day 2021 was “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”.

This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme was #ChooseToChallenge.

Union Education Minister in 'International Women’s Day 2021 Celebration

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ interacted virtually with girl students.

The select girl students from classes 6th to 12th from various schools across the country participated and shared their views on women empowerment and their role in nation building.

From the selected girls students, Union Minister Shri Pokhriyal declared Padma Angmo from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Leh as the ‘Khushiyon ki Brand Ambassador’.

'International Women’s Day 2021' organized by Lalit Kala Akademi

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (IC) Shri Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the All-Women’s Art Exhibition titled ‘Akshya Patra’ at Rabindra Bhavan Galleries of Lalit Kala Akademi, India’s National Academy of Art.

Union Environment Minister in International Women's Day event

On International Women’s Day, Union Environment Minister,Shri Prakash Javadekar released an e-book titled: ‘The Green Queens of India – A nation’s pride’.

All Women Fit India Walkathon

To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Fit India Movement in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) organised an All Women Fit India Walkathon at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Online Training Programme for Women PE Teachers and Community Coaches

Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Smriti Irani and Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri. Kiren Rijiju launched an online training programme exclusively for women Physical Education Teachers and Community Coaches. It aims to empower women teachers in primary, secondary and senior secondary schools by giving them fitness training so that they can in turn empower students, especially the girl child.

International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first International Women’s Day gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.
