Marathi cinema has made a significant mark at the 70th National Film Awards 2022, with several films receiving accolades in various categories.
The Jury for the 70th National Film Awards announced the winners for the year 2022 on 16 August 2024. The Jury comprised of eminent filmmakers and film personalities from across the Indian cine-world.

The 70th National Film Awards for the year 2022 were announced, celebrating outstanding achievements in Indian cinema, recognising excellence across a wide range of categories including feature films, non-feature films, and writing on cinema.
Important 70th National Film Awards 2022 Winners:
- Best feature film award has been given to Aattam (The Play) directed by Anand Ekarshi and the award for Best Non-Feature Film has been bagged by Ayena (Mirror) directed by Siddhant Sarin.
- Award for Best Book on Cinema has been given to Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography authored by Anirudha Bhattacharjee & Parthiv Dhar.
- Kantara won the Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
- Rishab Shetty has been awarded the Best Actor in Leading Role for his performance in the movie Kantara whereas Nithya Menen bagged the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Thiruchitrambalam.

About National Film Awards:
- The National Film Awards are the most prestigious film awards in India.
- The National Film Awards were established in 1954, when the awards were given for the films of the year 1953.
- Established in 1954, it has been administered, along with the International Film Festival of India and the Indian Panorama, by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973. The Directorate of Film Festivals is an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- The National Film Awards are given in three sections: Feature Films, Non-Feature Films, and Best Writing in Cinema.
» Some changes have been made in the National Film Awards this year.
- ‘Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director’ has now become ‘Best Debut Film of a Director’.
- The ‘Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration’ has been renamed as ‘Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values’.
- The prize money of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
- The prize money of the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) is Rs 3 lakh.
- The prize money of the Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) is Rs 2 lakh.
- The ‘Best Animation Film’ and ‘Best Special Effects’ awards have now been combined to form a new category called “Best AVGC Film”.
- ‘Best Audiography’ is now renamed as ‘Best Sound Design’ and prize money has been increased to Rs 2 lakh.
