National:
  • India successfully test fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable hypersonic missile “Shaurya” on 03 October 2020. The surface-to-surface tactical missile with a strike range of around 1,000 km is capable of carrying payloads of 200 kg to 1000 kg.
    It has been test fired from launch complex 4 of the Integrated Test Range in the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
  • Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, celebrated Foundation Day of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) on the occasion of Antyodaya Diwas on 25th September, 2020. DDU-GKY was celebrated as “Kaushal Se Kal Badlenge”.
  • In Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh a function organized by DEPwD, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment through video conferencing on 25th September, 2020, to laid the Foundation Stone of World Class “Centre for Disability Sports”.
    It will have:
  1. Outdoor Athletic Stadium, Indoor Sports Complex, Basement Parking Facility
  2. Aquatic Centre having 2 Swimming Pools, one covered Pool and an Outdoor Pool
  3. High Performance Centre with classrooms
  4. Medical facilities
  5. Sports Science Centre
  6. Hostel facilities for athletes, support facilities including accessible lockers, dining, recreational amenities and Administrative Block
  • Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj & Food Processing Industries Shri Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the campus of the new Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Gogamukh, Assam on 25th September, 2020.
    On the occasion of inauguration, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar announced that the IARI, Assam will be named after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan interacted with social media users during Sunday Samvaad-3 on 27th September, 2020. He coins the slogan: “दो गज की दूरी और थोड़ी समझदारी, पड़ेगी कोरोना पे भारी”।
International:
  • Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Danish Patent and Trademark Office, Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Kingdom of Denmark. The MoU is signed on 26th September, 2020, in the field of Intellectual Property Cooperation.
    The MoU aims at increasing Intellectual Property Cooperation between the two countries by way of: Exchange of best practices, experiences and knowledge on Intellectual Property awareness among public, authorities, businesses and research and educational institution of both countries; Collaboration in training programmes, exchange of experts; Exchange of information and best practices on processes for disposal of applications for patents, trademarks, industrial designs and Geographical Indications; etc.
CSIR Award:
  • CSIR celebrated its 79th Foundation Day at S S Bhatnagar Sabhaghar in its premises on 26th September, 2020. On the foundation day, CSIR launched e-book on “CSIR Fights Covid-19” & also conferred with award to school children, young scientist & others.
    The prestigious CSIR Diamond Jubilee Technology Award for the year 2019 is conferred to Tata Chemicals Limited (TCL), Pune. This is given for the technological advancement it has made in the production of ‘Fructo-oligosaccharides’ (FOS), also known as FOSSENCE.
  • CSIR Award for S & T Innovations for Rural Development (CAIRD):
    CAIRD Award for the year 2017– CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad
    CAIRD Award for the year 2018– M/s. Watsan Envirotech Private Limited, Thoraipakkam, Chennai
    CAIRD Award for the year 2019– Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai
  • G N Ramachandran Gold Medal For Excellence in Biological Sciences & Technology 2020– Dr Jaya Sivaswami Tyagi, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

  • The CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow conferred young researchers with CDRI Award 2020.
    They are: Dr Bushra Ateeq in Biological Sciences for new therapeutic avenues for prostate cancer; Dr Surajit Ghosh in Biological Sciences for contribution in Discovery of Nuclear Localizing Cell Penetrating Peptide (CPP) for anticancer drug; and Dr Ravi Manjithaya in Chemical Sciences for outstanding work on Chemical genetics-based identification of autophagy-modulating small molecules which provides mechanistic insights and therapeutic potential. This award is for their outstanding contribution in drug discovery and development.
    Dr Bushra Ateeq also got this year’s Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in medical sciences. 
Important Day:
  • 28 September is celebrated as the Gunners Day every year as on this day in 1827 Five (Bombay) Mountain Battery equipped with 2.5 inch Guns was raised.
  • World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27th September every year globally. On the occasion of the this, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan addressed a virtual meet on the theme of “Tourism and rural development”, along with Minister of State (I/c) for Tourism Shri Prahlad Singh Patel.
    The Chief Guest Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched the SAATHI Application. SAATHI is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism with Quality Council of India. It aims to assist the hospitality industry to continue to operate safely, and thereby instill confidence among the Staff, employees and the guests about the safety of the hotel/unit.
    He also launched a film ‘Pathik’, an initiative on Incredible India Tourist Facilitators Certification Programme (IITFC) and an ICPB MICE Promotional film.
Death:
  • JMM Leader & Jharkhand minority welfare minister Haji Hussain Ansari died due to cardiac arrest in Ranchi on 03 Oct 2020. He was 73.
