Book – ‘Spoorthi Pradatha Sri Somayya’

⇒ The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu released a book – ‘Spoorthi Pradatha Sri Somayya’ on 26 March 2022 in Hyderabad.

The book is about the life story of late Shri Somepalli Somaiah, a noted social worker from Andhra Pradesh. The book has been authored by Shri K Syam Prasad.

Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile

⇒ Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two successful flight tests of the Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 27, 2022.

    • The first launch was to intercept a medium altitude long range target and second launch was for proving the capability of a low altitude short range target.
About Missile:
    • This MRSAM version is a Surface-to-Air Missile developed jointly by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel for use by the Indian Army.
    • The MRSAM Army weapon system comprises multi-function radar, mobile launcher system and other vehicles.

Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022

⇒ Under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Mega festival, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan inaugurated the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022 at Arts college Ground, RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM, Andhra Pradesh on 26 March 2022.

    • The two-day Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav at the Government Art College grounds in Rajahmundry held from 26th-27th March 2022.

» In his inaugural address, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan said Festivals like Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav will further strengthen our culture and traditions.

Aim:

The Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav is the flagship festival of the Ministry of Culture which aims to preserve, promote, and popularise the rich cultural heritage of India.

Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav presents a unique opportunity to witness each and every folk, traditional, tribal, classical and popular art forms of India under a single roof where approximately more than 1000 artistes showcase their talent.

» The 12th edition of RSM-2022 was held from 26th March to 3rd April in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
    • Under Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav, events were organized at Warangal on 29 and 30th March, 2022, and in Hyderabad for 3 days from 01 April to 03 April, 2022.

» The first Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav was organized in 2015 and evoked a good response from media & public which prompted to organize a series of festivals.

WINGS INDIA 2022

⇒ The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) jointly organized the WINGS INDIA 2022 – Asia’s largest event on Civil Aviation (Commercial, General and Business Aviation).

    • ‘WINGS INDIA 2022’ was held from 24th to 27th March 2022 at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, India.
Theme:

The theme of the event was “India@75: New Horizon for Aviation Industry”.

» It provides a congenial forum catering to the rapidly changing dynamics of the sector. It was focused on new business acquisition, investments, policy formation and regional connectivity.

Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup 2022

⇒ The Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup was held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from 21 March to 27 March, 2022.

    • The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the tournament on 21st March.
Final match:
    • The prestigious hockey tournament was played at Major Dhyanchand Stadium, Bhopal.
    • In the final match held on 27 March, Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) team beat Army XI by 2.
    • Winner:

      Indian Railways’ men Hockey team won the prestigious Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup.

History:
    • Started in year 1931 as Obaidullah Gold Cup, the prestigious tournament carried on for decades and has produced many international players during its journey.
    • It was last played in year 2016 and was organized after a gap of six years this year.
    • Last time, in the year 2016, the tournament was won by BPCL and Railways team was runners up.

56th National Cross country Championship

⇒ The 2022 South Asian Cross Country Championship and the 56th National Cross country Championship held on 26th of March, 2022 at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima in Nagaland. This tournament was the first-ever international athletics event in the state of Nagaland.

Winners of 56th National Cross country Championship:

» Indian Railways’ women team became winner in the 56th National Cross Country Championship (Men & Women) held at Kohima in state of Nagaland.

» Indian Railways women athletes won Gold in the team event while Men team won the Silver. Ms. Varsha Devi, Manju Yadav, Preenu Yadav and Munni Devi were members of Railway Sports Promotion Board team in the Championship.

» In the individual event, the women athletes from Indian Railways captured top 5 positions and sealed the Gold for Indian Railways in the Team event.

» In the Men’s section the Indian Railways team consisting of Narendra Pratap, Dinesh, Virendra Kumar Pal & Harshad Mhatre won the Silver Medal.
