Licensing Agreement for the synthesis of 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose

⇒ Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, a constituent laboratory of CSIR and Lee Pharma, an integrated pharmaceutical company, based in Hyderabad have entered into a non-exclusive licensing agreement for the synthesis of 2-Deoxy-D-Glucose (2-DG).

Recently, 2-DG developed by DRDO and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has received approval for use in Covid-19 patients.

It has been found to help speed up recovery and reduce oxygen dependence and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories has launched the drug in the form of sachets.

Lee Pharma will manufacture and commercialize the 2-DG sachets from their formulation facility located at SEZ, Duvvada, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

54th Meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee

⇒ The Government approved 708 proposals for construction of 3.61 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) on 8th June 2021.

The decision in this regard was taken at the 54th Meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under PMAY-U held in New Delhi. The Meeting was attended by 13 States/UTs.

These houses are proposed to be constructed across Beneficiary Led Construction and Affordable Housing in Partnership verticals.

PMAY- U Awards 2021 – 100 Days Challenge:

In addition, the Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Durga Shanker Mishra also launched the ‘PMAY- U Awards 2021 – 100 Days Challenge’.

The awards are given to recognize and celebrate the outstanding contribution and performances by States, Union Territories, Urban Local Bodies and beneficiaries for successful implementation of the Mission and create a healthy competition.

Achievement:

With this, as on 8 June 2021, the total number of sanctioned houses under PMAY(U) is now 112.4 lakh and so far, 82.5 lakh have been grounded for construction of which 48.31 lakh have been completed/delivered.

Total investment under the Mission is Rs 7.35 Lakh Crore which has Central assistance of Rs 1.81 Lakh Crore of which Rs 96,067 Crore of funds have been released.

Novel Eddy Detection Technique to Detect Tropical Cyclones

⇒ Indian Scientists have found a promising technique for early detection of development or strengthening of tropical cyclones in the atmospheric column prior to satellite detection over ocean surface in North Indian Ocean region.

A team of Scientists from IIT Kharagpur, with support from the Department of Science & Technology under the Climate Change Programme, devised a novel method using Eddy detection technique to investigate the formative stages and advance detection time of tropical cyclogenesis in the North Indian Ocean region. The research was recently published in the journal ‘Atmospheric Research’.

The method developed by the scientists’ aims to identify initial traces of pre-cyclonic eddy vortices in the atmospheric column and track its Spatio-temporal evolution.

Award Ceremony held at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun

⇒ In an award ceremony held at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun on 09 June 2021, Junior Under Officer Kinley Norbu, a Foreign Gentlemen Cadet from the Kingdom of Bhutan was awarded the prestigious motivational trophy for his excellent all round performance during his training at the Academy.

The FGC was adjudged to receive the prestigious motivational trophy since he had won the Best in Physical Training, Best in Turn out and the Best in Drill awards among the Gentleman Cadets who have successfully completed their training.

31st Edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol

⇒ The 31st edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy was conducted from 09 June to 11 June, 2021.

The 31st Indo-Thai CORPAT contributed towards Indian Navy’s efforts to consolidate inter-operability and forge strong bonds of friendship with Royal Thai Navy.

Both the navies are conducting CORPAT, towards reinforcing maritime links between the two countries and with an aim of keeping this vital part of the Indian Ocean safe and secure for international trade.

Both the navies have been undertaking CORPAT bi-annually along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) since 2005.

⇒ QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings 2022 results were released on, June 8, 2021 by QS, a British company.

QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), global higher education analysts have released the 18th edition of the world’s International University rankings.
