National

National Helpline Against Atrocities

⇒ Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar has launched a National Helpline Against Atrocities (NHAA) on 13 December 2021.

The Helpline is now available round the clock on toll-free number “14566” across the country in Hindi, English and regional language of the State/UTs.

The Helpline number will ensure proper implementation of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) [PoA] Act, 1989.

Also available as a web-based self-service portal, the NHAA will generate informed awareness about the various provisions of the Prevention of Atrocities (PoA) Act, 1989 and the Protection of Civil Right (PCR) Act, 1955. The objective of these Acts is to end discrimination and provide protection to all.

It will ensure that every complaint is registered as FIRs, relief is provided, all registered complaints are investigated and all chargesheets filed are prosecuted in the Courts for decision – all within the given timelines in the Act.

J C Daniel Award for 2020

⇒ Veteran Malayalam playback singer P Jayachandran has won the J C Daniel Award for 2020 for his immense and praiseworthy contribution to the Malayalam film music industry given by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.

    • Playback singer P Jayachandran is the 28th person to grab the J C Daniel award.
About P Jayachandran:
    • P Jayachandran, having made his debut in the Malayalam film industry with the song ‘Oru Mullappoomalayumay’.
    • Jayachandran has lent his voice for over 15,000 songs and he is fondly known as ‘Bhava Gayakan’ among the Malayali audience.
About Award:

The award carries a citation and a plaque along with a cash amount of Rs 5 Lakh. J C Daniel award is said to be the highest film award in Kerala.

MaaUmiya Dham Development Project

⇒ Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of Umiya Mata Temple and its premises under MaaUmiya Dham Development Project at Umiya Campus in Sola in Ahmedabad on 11 December 2021.

The temple, dedicated to Maa Umiya, the reigning deity of the Kadva Patidar sect, as well as other buildings, will come up at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore on 74,000 square yards of land.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of MaaUmiya Dham Development Project involving Umiya Mata Dham temple and temple premises.

⇒ Online grocery delivery platform ‘Grofers’ has rebranded itself as ‘Blinkit’ in December 2021 to focus on its pivot to quick commerce.

Time magazine's 2021 "Person of the Year"

⇒ Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been named Time Magazine’s “person of the year 2021”.

According to Time magazine:

For creating solutions to an existential crisis, for embodying the possibilities and the perils of the age of tech titans, for driving society’s most daring and disruptive transformations, Elon Musk is TIME’s 2021 Person of the Year.

    • Musk is also the founder and CEO of SpaceX, and leads brain-chip startup Neuralink and infrastructure firm The Boring Company.

⇒ The Golden Globe Awards 2022 ceremony was held on January 9, 2022. It was the 79th edition of the annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Golden Globe Awards 2022 honored the best in film and American television of 2021, as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

⇒ The Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) conferred the prestigious ‘SJFI Medal 2021’ to legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.

The SJFI body took the decision at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Guwahati in December 2021. A. Vinod (Kerala) was also elected as the new SJFI President during this Annual General Meeting.
