National:
  • On November 19, 2020, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Law and Justice released a “My Stamp on Chhath Puja”.
    He also released a special cover on theme “Chhath- A symbol of Simplicity and Cleanliness”.

Book:
  • Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh released the third volume of the Selected Speeches of President Shri Ram Nath Kovind titled- “लोकतन्त्र के स्वर” and “The Republican Ethic” in New Delhi, on November 19, 2020.
    The “लोकतन्त्र के स्वर” and “The Republican Ethic” has been published by the Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GOI.
Award:
  • Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was conferred with the “Vatayan Lifetime Achievement Award”, on November 21, 2020. Vatayan-UK felicitation ceremony was virtually organized by British Institution Group at England.
    Vatayan International Awards given by the Vatayan-UK organization in London, honours poets, writers and artists for their exemplary work in their respective fields.
Technology:
  • Supercomputer ‘Param Siddhi’ has achieved global ranking of 63 in top 500 most powerful non-distributed computer systems in the world. The result of the ranking was released on November 16, 2020.
    This is the high performance computing-artificial intelligence (HPC-AI) supercomputer. It has been established under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) at C-DAC.
International:
2020 Booker Prize:
  • Scottish-American writer Douglas Stuart has won the 2020 Booker Prize for his debut novel Shuggie Bain.
Appointment:
  • Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India, Girish Chandra Murmu has been elected as External Auditor of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU), Geneva for a three-year term.
100 Notable Book List:
  • Editors of The New York Times Book Review selected 100 “notable fiction, poetry and nonfiction” works from around the world. In 100 notable book list three books of Indian writer are also included.
Three Indian writer & his/her books are:
  1. Fiction- “A Burning” by Megha Majumdar
  2. Fiction- “Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line” by Deepa Anappara
  3. Nonfiction- “A Dominant Character: The Radical Science and Restless Politics of J. B. S. Haldane” by Samanth Subramanian

In this list former US president Barack Obama’s newly released memoir “A Promised Land” is also included.

Death:
  • Telugu poet, writer and journalist Devi Priya died in Hyderabad, on November 21, 2020. He was 69. He got the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2017 for his book ‘Gaali Rangu’.
  • TV actress Leena Acharya passed away on 21 November 2020 in Delhi after a kidney ailment. She was in her late 30s. She worked in shows like ‘Class of 2020’ and ‘Seth Ji’.
Others:
  • Sea Harrier museum is being set up by Visakhapatnam Metro Region Development Authority (VMRDA) at Beach Road, which is to be completed by February 2021.
  • The Karthigai Deepam festivities at the Arunachaleswarar temple in Tiruvannamalai have begun on November 20, 2020. The 14-day festivities started off with the temple’s traditional flag hoisting ceremony. This ceremony was held between 5.30 am and 6.30 am, on November 20.
