National:

Akashvani Music Festival Renamed:

  • Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri Prakash Javadekar made a announcement at a Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Centenary Commemorative function organized in Pune on 6 February 2021. He said, the prestigious Akashvani Music Festival, will hereinafter be named after Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was conferred the Bharat Ratna award in 2009.

RBI's Repo Rate, Reverse Repo Rate, MSFR & BR:

  • Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Shri Shaktikanta Das stated in his Monetary Policy Statement on 5 February 2021 that Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has voted unanimously to leave the Repo Rate unchanged at 4%.

He further stated, Reverse Repo Rate will remain unchanged at 3.35% and the Marginal Standing Facility Rate and Bank Rate will also remain unchanged at 4.25%.

International:

8th Meeting of ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers:

  • The Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel co-chaired the 8th Meeting of ASEAN-India Tourism Ministers meeting with Minister of Tourism of Cambodia Dr Thong Khon through video conferencing on 5 February 2021.

The Meeting was in conjunction with the 24th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers.

In meeting, Ministers agreed to further enhance ASEAN-India cooperation in tourism under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN and India.

Secretary of the Department of Homeland Secretary:

  • Alejandro Mayorkas was sworn in as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Secretary by President Biden on February 2, 2021.

Mayorkas is the first Latino and immigrant confirmed to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security.

Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021:

  • India’s most prestigious award ceremony, Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival awards 2021 was aired live on 20 February 2021.
 Winners:

Best Actor (Male): Akshay Kumar, for their film Laxmii

Best Actor (Female): Deepika Padukone, for their film Chhapaak

Best Director: Anurag Basu, Ludo

Best Film: Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior

President of Boxing Federation India:

  • Spicejet chairman Ajay Singh has been re-elected as president of Boxing Federation India for a second term at the general elections held in Gurugram on 3 February 2021, while Hemanta Kumar Kalita was elected as secretary general and Digvijay Singh as treasurer.
