  • Veteran actor Raavi Kondala Rao died of heart attack on 28 July 2020. He was 88. He was also a prolific writer and editor of the then popular film magazine “Vijaya Chitra” from 1966 to 1990.
  • The Ministry of Earth Sciences  launches new  “Mausam” app to provide weather Report. App gives the facility to user to get city-wise weather information and alerts ahead of extreme weather condition. The app will provide information about current temperature, radar image, humidity, wind speed and direction across 200 cities.
  • Chairman and managing director of Senco Gold Ltd. “Shaankar Sen” passed away in Kolkata.
  • Archana Soreng will be Indian activist  named by UN chief Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to new advisory group on climate change. The new advisory group comprising young leaders, aged between 18 and 28 years, who will provide perspectives and solutions to tackle the climate crisis.
  • Hurricane Hanna hits Texas. Hanna’s wind speed was of up to 90 mph. Because of Hurricane heavy rains across portions of southern Texas and northeastern Mexico.
  • The IMF approved US$4.3 billion in emergency financial assistance to South Africa under the Rapid Financing Instrument to support the authorities efforts in addressing the challenging health situation and severe economic impact of the COVID-19 shock.
  • India’s first international/ Global cruise terminal at the Ernakulam Wharf on Willingdon Island and a 2.10-km-long walkway built by the Cochin Port Trust (CPT) ready for commissioning and this is funded by Central tourism. Sagarika, the cruise terminal spread over 12,200 sq.ft. and cost is RS.25.72-crore. This terminal can handle up to 5,000 tourists arriving in cruise vessels.
  • Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi, AVSM, NM is the New Commandant of Indian Naval Academy. Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi graduated from the National Defence Academy with the award of the “President’s Gold Medal” conferred to the “Best all-round Cadet” of the passing out course. He was subsequently commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 85. He is a recipient of the Nao Sena Medal (Devotion to Duty) in 2011 and the Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 2019.
