- Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the date of the 36th International Geological Congress is rescheduled, previously the date was set to 9-14 November 2020.

Death:
- Northern Ireland politician John Hume who is nobel laureate died on 03 aug 2020. He was a founding member of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). His campaigning for the peace deal in 1998 played a major role in the peace talks, which led to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.
