World Fisheries Day: 21st November 2020

World Fisheries Day is celebrated on 21st November every year. This day is celebrated to demonstrate solidarity with all fisherfolk, fish farmers and concerned stakeholders throughout the world.

The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India celebrated World Fisheries Day at NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi.

During the event, for the first time in Fisheries Sector the Government of India awarded best performing States, District, & Organisations for 2019-20.

Best Performing States for 2019-20:

Amongst Marine states- Odisha

Amongst Inland states- Uttar Pradesh

Amongst Hilly and NE states- Assam

Best Performing District for 2019-20:

For Best Marine District- Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh 

For Best Inland District- Kalahandi, Odisha

For Best Hilly and NE District- Nagaon, Assam

Best Organisations for 2019-20:

For Best Marine Organisation- Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd

For Best Inland Organisation- Telangana State Fishermen Cooperative societies Federation Ltd

For Best Hilly region Organisation- Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Ltd

Besides, it also felicitated the best Fisheries Enterprise, best performing Fisheries Cooperative Societies/FFPOs/SSG and best Individual entrepreneurs, best Marine and Inland Fish Farmer, etc for contribution into the growth of this sector.
